Meetings Reports
Wednesday 9th March 2022
An amusing talk by Dr Frank Burroughs was delivered via zoom. Well done to Jacqui and Clare for wading through a technical fog to enable the zoom to work
Karen gave us some amazing facts about WI resolutions. Since its first resolution in 1918 the WI have campaigned on an incredible range of issues increasing public awareness and bringing about real change. We are now starting to think about resolutions our branch will be championing in the coming year, so get your thinking caps on and bring your ideas to the next meeting
Kerrie updated us on the successful first meeting of the Craft and Chatter club and introduced the new WI nationwide project to celebrate the Queens Jubilee "Knit a Winnie"
Heather also told us about knitting squares to be made into blankets to be given to homeless men in Gloucester.
Clare asked us all to think about quarterly competitions we may wish to have.
Finally, Jacqui updated us on the finances and reminded us that our subscriptions are due at our next meeting
Overall a very productive and enjoyable meeting
Wednesday 13th April 2022
We had a very enjoyable meeting last night which took an unexpected turn. Let down by our speaker who didn't turn up to talk about Hilarious Hats, we used our birthday evening to discuss, over our birthday coffee and cake, the WI resolutions in advance of the AGM. What followed was a lively debate about the 2022 Resolution "Women and Girls with ASD & ADHD - under-identified, under-diagnosed, misdiagnosed, under-supported" and the members unanimously voted to ask our delegate to vote in favour of the resolution at the AGM. The resolutions debate then led to further discussion about possible resolutions we would like to develop for 2023.
Other topics raised in the meeting were the continuing upkeep of our WI tree n Watermoor and the growing success of the Craft Club. Christine reported that she has been in contact with the local authority and is making good progress in finding out who is responsible for the upkeep of the tree. Kerrie reported back that there are now 11 members attending craft club meetings which are going from strength to strength. Lesley gave members information about the Cream Tea afternoon on 10th May 3pm - 5pm @ The Corinium Hotel and Clare announced the development of a new Health and Wellbeing group, which plans to hold gentle walking outings over the summer.
Finally a huge thank you to Heather and her team for the coffee and cakes

We had a very lively and interesting meeting last night. Our WI is growing fast, Jacqui reported that we have now got 31 fully paid up members and we welcomed another 5 potential new members.
Our speaker was Pam Slater who told us "All about Pearls" giving us a fascinating insight into how these beautiful gems are created and the correct way to look after your pearls. It's amazing how one little shellfish can create something so wonderful
Then followed the business aspect of the meeting. Karen took the vote for the support for this year's WI resolution, which was carried unanimously. Kerrie reported that the craft club is going from strength to strength with 14 members, and Sheila introduced our WI involvement in the Cirencester Flower Festival which will take place in the Parish Church between 2nd and 4th June to celebrate the Jubilee.
What a lovely evening we had thank you to everyone who attended

We had a very enjoyable and lively meeting last night. We held our Jubilee celebrations with the theme of the night being 1940's and 50's fashion and the colours red, white and blue. Our ladies provided a delicious Jubilee buffet and we were joined by 3 guests.
Bill King gave us an interesting and informative talk about the life and music of Glen Miller with a very fascinating fact about Chattanooga Choo Choo!
The evening ended with ladies enjoying a chat over food and a glass of wine to the melodies of Glen Miller.

Chris O’Grady gave us an entertaining and informative talk on the world of art and antiques. Many of us are now dreaming of finding an old master or a vase from one of the Chinese dynasties in our local charity shops or e-bay etc.

Wednesday 14th September
Following the devastating news about the death of our beloved Queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, the meeting was a celebration and commemoration of her reign and her life. We started the meeting with a minute's silence and then after the business aspects of the meeting had been concluded, we held a Royalty based Quiz. There were 8 rounds all of which were connected to the Queen, her life and her family. It was a very enjoyable evening, offering everyone the opportunity to remind themselves just what an extraordinary life our late Queen had lived and allowing us to reminisce, laugh and perhaps learn a thing of two about the royal family which we had never known. A fitting tribute to our fellow WI member. Thank you to all who attended and made it such a n enjoyable meeting.
